Good morning y’all!
What a lovely day! You know, I am so ready for it to be Spring…and I am not biased. Okay maybe a little. But honestly, I used to prefer Summer over Winter, but now I would rather Autumn or Spring any day. The others are just too extreme.
You know I was walking past the train station, and everything was normal. But as I glance over to see the shops, I notice a break in. The glass door broken. So, I am walking home and it’s a little dark now, coz we’re in Winter and the sun sets early. Anyway, it was as soon as I notice the broken door, that I become worried. But prior to noticing the break of the door, I was at peace – as just it was another day walking past the same shop as before.
It made me reflect that our surroundings impact us more than we’d like to admit. You know we try being brave and conquer all. And it’s good, we can overcome. But we are still flesh, and we must not let the world around us impact us. Just like we saw in the previous example – where looking at the broken door caused fear inside. But one thing I learnt, is that people or things don’t have to make us feel a certain way. Yes, it is natural to feel things. But, someone calling names, you have a choice to accept what they’re saying or not. Just like here, I have a choice to fear what I associate broken doors and a dark sky, makes me feel. And if I choice to trust in God to help me remain calm. Especially when the reality is an empty shop, there’s no real threat. I don’t need to be afraid because in the end, had I not glanced that way, on my walk home, I wouldn’t have felt any different.
We can be walking the same path, daily, constantly. And as soon as there’s a change, something new, unfamiliar, we can worry and stress. And it’s easier said than done, that’s for sure. Sometimes we need stress balls or ice-cream…but when the world is chaos or eery quiet…when it makes us uncomfortable. We need to be stronger and be okay with that feeling which is temporary. Things of this world don’t last. And look within, and what you should find is Christ. And His constant loving reminder that we do not walk alone [Psalm 23:4].
We must be grounded within ourselves, though in the moment we can feel a certain way. But it’s when we are within Christ and aware of Him and His truth, that we can help others [2 Corinthians 1:3-4] who might not know Jesus. Because in their shoes, it’s scary. Who do they look to? Maybe they look up to you…if you’re a good friend? I am sure they do. But we have God and Jesus. But for them, you should be the example of what someone living a true faith, looks like. Not just your words but through your actions – as we all know actions speak louder than words.
Whenever you feel something trigger you – maybe it’s a work colleague, or friend, or family member. Whatever it is, we need to find our love and strength in His Word so we can love them well. First love God, then you can love yourself and then you can love others. Although it is not easy, it is the path we ought to take. For as you be a light, others will see that, in the midst of the darkness.
For light shines in the darkness [John 1:5]. You yourselves, and myself, must be a bright light.
God, you amaze me!

Psalm 23:4 NIV
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
John 1:5 NIV
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
