Good morning y’all!

I started the podcast. About time!

Haha. It’s been a real joy, even though I think it took me a few times until I realised recently that I didn’t set up the mic correctly – and that’s why the audio was poor. If you’re new here on the Blog, welcome. We have started our Podcast channel, where we will be sharing same content, just differently. Although the main idea is that on the Pod it will go into the content more.

This week many new things as always. First it began with coming to a deperate point where I needed to warm my hands. So having worn this coat, given by my little sister under the impression that it had fake pockets. My mind questioned on my commute to work that Monday morning, “Though I cannot fit more than a finger in the sewed gap of what seems like a pocket seam, maybe it was sewed for postage.” So I ripped it open having analysed maybe this whole time I have been lying to myself.

And sure enough the opening, opened to reveal a pocket. The pocket was there all along! I have had it for about 1 year. So really 1 winter haha. Anyway, that truly made my day and my hands were warm.

Oh and the day gets better. Literally, at work I go to the dishwasher to put in my used spoon and water sprays at me. All over my top and pants. Silly me – and I am lowkey laughing by the wake up call of the warm watery spray. I didn’t check to see the dishwasher on. Though earlier that morning when my colleague let me try roasted Japanese tea, I saw her turn on the dishwasher.

Then at lunch, when I grab my bottle I forgot I left my lid on my bottle unscrewed. You see, cuz I normally, almost always put it on the bottle tightly. And because of this, water rushes over my desk.

Long story short, typing I realise how forgetful I can be. That’s probs why I need a checklist and a random Notes in my phone to brain dump important stuff.

But how important it is that we don’t forget God in our life and His presence. But not just His presence, but His Words. For me grewing up in a Christian family and Sunday we would always go to church. Being in Sunday school, lead by my mum, I was the one kid that would be so stubborn to not memorise the weekly verse. Which I now later regret – though when your stubborn you don’t realise at the time. But its because my 2 sisters would do it.. actually I take it back. I would memorise for a time and we would get points that we could save up to get prizes. The more points the more expensive the prize. But I remember now, that there was a time we had monthly competition, where you memorise the verse and could win a BIG prize. Which was a voucher to Mr Toys Toy World. And in my stubbornness, I refused to memorise the verses.

But though as someone who I would say has good memory, didn’t have the heart to try.

See we care forgetful. But if we forget the Words we read whether in the morning, day or night – the words of the Bible, truly what was the point of reading?

Surely it is to reflect on those words in your day and see how you could use it in your life.

It’s like the analogy of looking in the mirror and forgetting what you look like [James 1:23-24]. Don’t you know what you look like? You do. Don’t you? Haha.

Even this we can relate. But we need reminder of His Word. Though I believe we each would be able to quote John 3:5-6 or our favourite verse. But do we remember what we read?

And some of you might. Which is good! Keep remembering. But I am speaking to myself and others, and use this opportunity to think about the reason behind spending time in His Word. Just like you would anything. There’s a reason you go to work, why you eat, go to a movie etc. Why do we read the Bible? It’s a great question. Because we don’t have to. Unlike skipping meals, we wont die of starvation. Just like you might, go to the gym. You want to change, isn’t it?

God’s Word is powerful. So we – myself also even more, make the time we spend with God and Jesus in the quiet place, so intentional we cannot help but absorb all we can in those precious moements. Because those moements we might go through the motions, or rush it. But anything worth doing takes time and effort. And the best things in life, they require intentionality and careful consideration. Take things in life, I was reflecting this week also – how easy it is to say “Yes” to things. But deep down, do we really, A) want to do it? And B) need to do it? Most times, theres things we don’t want to do but have to. So we do it. But what about those things, aka habits maybe we internally say “yes” to and its not a benefit to us. How our time could be well spent elsewhere.

Knowing “Why” we do what we do is important. Without reason, we will chase anything. But our time cannot be carelessly diverted to things that don’t lead us the way deep down with reflection, the way we want to go.

So this week, is the week to remember why we are reading God’s Word and how we can remember what we read. So we are not reading for the sake of reading. Because if its to just feel good or know something (though we forget), couldn’t we just read any other book or watch a movie, to feel this way?

God, you amaze me!

E

James 1:23-24 NIV

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

God’s Word is our mirror
